New Share Everything Plans

Customers have been asking for family data plans for their smartphones, and Verizon Wireless has answered. The new Share Everything Plans put all of your devices in one easy package. Have all of your smartphones, basic phones, internet cards, and tablets in one bundle. All packages include unlimited minutes and texting. The only thing you have to choose is how much data your lines would like to share.

There are plans available for customers with basic phones only who don’t want any internet packages. For people who have data devices, you can choose whether you want to share 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 GB between all of your lines. With these plans, Mobile Hotspot is now free to use on any capable devices. Share your data allowance with anything that is wi-fi capable, such as laptops or MP3 players.

Verizon is planning on releasing these new plans officially on June 28th. Ask a sales rep at your nearest Express Verizon location in Ellington, Enfield, Vernon, or Stafford CT, how these plans would work for you.

Thunderbolt A Hero

One of the Express Verizon employees shared this story with me. It goes to show that even if you think you may not want something, who really knows until they really need it?

On 4-6-11, the internet servers at Bioworks Inc. crashed. Without an online connection the company’s ability to ship, manufacture and take orders were crippled. This company is set up so that all of their network is cloud based on the internet, any kind of internal hiccup or online connection problem will shut down the company while it gets sorted out. In the past, these downtimes would last, on average, a few hours at a time and had the potential to cost the company tens of thousands of dollars.

This would have been the case yesterday, if not for one of the technical managers and his new phone. Recently, he had upgraded to the HTC Thunderbolt which has a Wireless Hotspot feature (which is an included feature to try on the Thunderbolt until May 15th of this year).  By having the ability to connect up to five of their computers to the internet via the Thunderbolt, the company was able to keep their systems online and functioning for the duration of the system outage. The sales and shipping managers reported that no sales were lost or failed to be shipped on time.

Another business solution presented to you with a phone that knows no boundaries.

How To Use Backup Assistant

Backup Assistant is a free program offered by Verizon Wireless that saves a copy of your cell phones contact list on a secure site. Then, when you break, lose, or upgrade your phone, you can easily recover your phone numbers to the new device wirelessly! Here at Express Wireless we have all had customers who have been unable to retrieve their contact lists. It can be very frustrating to have to try to find those numbers again or reenter them from memory.  With this program, you will not lose you contacts again. You can even view, print, edit, or delete contacts right from your computer and the changes can be sent right to your mobile phone.

Almost all of the phones that we are currently carrying at Express Wireless have the ability to run this program. We encourage you set this up on your device because it is the most reliable way to protect your information from being lost. Not only that, many Verizon stores are discontinuing their phonebook transfers through our machines. This means, the primary option of moving your information will be through Backup Assistant. Best reason of all, you will not be charged for the program or for a store to transfer your phone numbers for you.

How do you get Backup Assistant? Easy!

  • Press Menu
  • Go to Media Center
  • Select Browse and Download
  • You may see Backup Assistant on this page, if so, select it. Or select Get New Applications.
  • Select Get Going, there you should see the option to download Backup Assistant.
  • Wait for the program to download and press OK on its main screen .
  • Choose a PIN , Express Wireless recommends 4 zeros. This way, if you forget we can still access it for you.
  • Choose a day time for your phone to run Backup Assistant to sync with any changes.
  • Press Next to Begin your first backup.

Once it is established, you can manage your contacts online at the Verizon Wireless site.

You can also stop into any of our Express Verizon Wireless stores in Enfield, Vernon, Ellington or Stafford Connecticut and we will happily set up Backup Assistant for you!

Love the Droid, Drop the iPhone

I hear it every week, “When is Verizon getting the iPhone?” I’m very sorry to the Apple – obsessed (my mother included) but, I don’t really have too much of a concern as to when the product will hit Verizon stores, like ours at Express Wireless. I am a proud owner of my iPod Touch but, that is where I draw the line with Apple. Our team honestly believes we are already carrying multiple phones that can trump the iPhone on it’s best day. The question becomes, can we stray from the mighty Apple iPhone brand name and venture into a world of better options?

To start off with, we currently carry 10 different Droid models: Droid X, Droid 2, Droid 2 Global, Incredible, Continuum, Fascinate, Droid Pro, Droid Citrus, Ally, and Vortex. You want options? We got ’em! You could choose the processor speed, camera quality, physical or virtual keyboard, size, style, and brand. Ultimately, you can choose what phone you want to go with your software versus having one choice in phone model.

You can investigate the pros and cons of any device. They are all different and that’s where we get options. Some people haven’t had any problems with their iPhones, others are not so happy. Facedialing, random muting and hang-ups, defective rear cameras, easily broken glass front, these are some of the common issues reported. One of the main problems reported was the phone losing signal when held in the left hand due to the antenna design, dubbed the “death grip“. Apple’s response? They claimed there was no problem or suggested you purchase a $30 bumper case to lower the result. There were murmurs of a recall but, it doesn’t seemed like Apple was too worried about the problem. I believe their name is bigger than their product, causing people to lunge after a piece of equipment that isn’t as good as it’s cracked up to be.

I’m not suggesting that the Droids are flawless. It is, however, much easier to handle a Droid problem. First is a soft reset, pulling and checking the battery. Can’t do that on an iPhone. What if it’s running slow because the memory is full? Droid: get a bigger memory card and pop it in the phone. iPhone: buy a whole new phone with bigger memory capabilities. Insuring the iPhone can be a nightmare trying to figure out what is covered by which providers. Droids are fully covered by the insurance offered in the store when you purchase the device. Want to do some troubleshooting? You will have to make an appointment at the Apple store which is always packed. Droids can be walked right into our Express Wireless in Enfield CT, or any Verizon store for that matter, with no appointment.

Does your iPhone come with free turn-by-turn navigation? Nope. I haven’t even found a free navigation app you can download on the iPhone app market. Look at the softwar creators, Apple vs. Google. Who do you think is bigger? I can keep going on and on about the comparisons. If you want the apps the functionality and the option in phone style, don’t waste your time with the iPhone. Verizon can bring on the iPhone (if they must) but, I will still happily guide people to the better choice. The Droid.

For more information, visit us at 549 Hazard Ave in Enfield, CT 06082, or our other locations in Vernon, Stafford or Ellington, CT.  You can also reach us by calling (860) 749-7077. We are also still offering $50 off any of our smart phones if you would like to try out one of these great phones for yourself!

Verizon Evolves to 4G

It’s true, Verizon has officially announced the release of 4G. While Verizon stays quiet on its website about broadcasting the exact date the launch will take place, Mashable makes a distinct claim of opening day on December 5th. The Express Wireless team is ecstatic about the new launch and looks forward to carrying all the new equipment.

The new 4G will support download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and uploads between 2 and 5 Mbps.  First in the line up are aircards. Soon you could be blazing the internet with the fastest mobile speeds. Here, at Express Wireless, we look forward to the new equipment and can’t wait to carry the USB modems. The new 4G phones shouldn’t be too far behind in arrival.

Unlike some other carriers, we are getting the 4G spread FAST!  Long Term Evolution will be attainable in 38 major metropolitan areas, covering more than 110 million Americans, and 60 commercial airports at launch. Although we may not have 4G right away in Enfield, CT, Verizon is pushing for full nationwide coverage by 2013!

If you have any questions about the 4G Long Term Evolution service please come visit us at Express Wireless located at 549 Hazard Ave. in Enfield, CT 06082. Or call directly to the store (860) 749-7077.
